Photographer Spotlight Monday: Devinn Campbell
Preferred Name: Devinn Campbell
From: Houston, TX USA
Currently: Dallas, TX USA
TOAN: Do you have a focus on one specific area of photography, i.e.: fashion, landscape, portraiture, events, etc? If so, which?
Devinn Campbell: I focus on portraits of people, one of my main subject matter is women and the female body. I chose this area simply because it is something I think we should glorify because each one is beautiful, unique and we come from women so its so much more power there.
TOAN: What are your thoughts on saturation in the photography industry due to social media?
DV: I love how aware people are now, utilizing their creativity and having a platform where you can share that with the world. On the other hand I hate that any account with a large following can be considered better than someone with less followers/likes I always tell people to dive into what you love and be ready to hit the bumps in the road. Don’t look too much into Social media because it can slow down your process and growth.
TOAN: Because of its origin and some specific knowledge of settings, numbers and so forth, do you consider photography an art, science, or skill/talent?
DV: I will always look at Photography as an art form first.. its something that was created to be timeless, like a painting. Their definitely is a lot of science and skill involved with it and even some math lol. Everyone sees something different and I think that aspect of photography makes it more science and skills develop with repetition.
TOAN: How did you decide on photography as something to commit your time to?
DV: I started off doing landscape and music photography but I wanted to do more with it, It wasn’t ’til I up and moved to LA to find out if I could make it doing this and I would like to say that was the move that needed to be made. I learned a lot about myself and what Im capable of creating and I plan to become well known for my style
TOAN: What do you imagine to be doing with photography in 6 months? 5 years?
DV: In 6 mos. I plan on having my first annual zine release + merch. In 5 years I plan on having my work for purchase in galleries across the globe.
